Dissolve from The Shining (1980)

A highly unusual—and oddly shamanic—reading of The Shining has been receiving a surprising amount of online attention of late. Its author, MSTRMND’s Kevin McLeod, offers a serialized guide to the Stanley Kubrick classic, blending film narrative, phenomenology, cosmology, and brain-science to explain the film as an incarnation of Meso-American visual cognition. His concept of glyphic continuum is unexplained, but, according to McLeod, “can be understood if researched,” and viewed side-by-side with the film.
