Tony Martin is a founder of art works using light, and has created seminal new media works since the 1960’s. Light Pendulum is a new work that is controlled by site-specific environmental conditions including light, sound, and motion. Light Pendulum functions both as a stand-alone kinetic sculpture as well as a temporal instrument used in a performance-based setting. Light Pendulum is comprised of a six-inch diameter glass pendulum suspended with nylon line from the installation space ceiling. An LED pin-light is installed at the top of the line. The pendulum’s motion is caused by the earth’s rotation and conditions of air movement. A large parabolic mirrored dish is installed directly underneath the pendulum. Receptors and sensors are positioned at the center of the dish. These receptors function as photocells, photovoltaic cells, and other signal and current producing and regulating components.

Michelle Nagai utilizes sound, physicality and concept to create site-specific performances, installations, radio broadcasts, dances, walks and other interactions that address the human state in relationship to its setting. These works and activities explore the exchange of perception between performer and audience/viewer. Nagai recognizes transmission, reception and “limbo” as continuously shifting, highly interactive states of being. She engages these states in her working process in order to open up the field of perception and action beyond that which she is herself capable of comprehending, making or doing.

Cult 60’s singer-songwriter Vashti Bunyan takes a break from recording her new album with Andy Cabic from Vetiver to perform a one-off, exclusive acoustic set at the 92YTribeca venue in New York on Friday, October 16, in support of the screening of the critically acclaimed documentary Vashti Bunyan : From Here To Before.

For many cult artists, rediscovery comes too late, they never live to know their art has been reappraised, is being loved by generations not even born when they were at work. In the case of Vashti Bunyan, the “Godmother of Freak Folk” and muse to artists such as Devendra Banhart and the Animal Collective, 30 years of obscurity ended with the rediscovery in 2000 of her lost classic album “Just Another Diamond Day” and her subsequent reintroduction into a mainstream she was never part of in the first place. The fact that the record was inspired by a very British road trip – an end to end journey across the country by horse and carriage – has only helped mythologise Vashti’s life and career. Ben Ratliff of The New York Times describes it as “a 700-mile journey [that] took two summers. Her story — or what is known of it from her interviews and her songs — is a perfectly preserved hippie tale, full of ideals, heartbreak and sleeping outdoors, and not arriving on time.”

From Here To Before is a wonderfully evocative film that retraces Vashti’s extraordinary journey across the British Isles, setting it against the backdrop of Vashti preparing for her first ever high profile London concert. It also features rare interviews with music luminaries Andrew Loog Oldham, Joe Boyd and the recently deceased Robert Kirby who provide an honest and informative insight into the most creative period of recorded popular music and Vashti’s place within it.

Following the screening on Friday, October 16, Vashti Bunyan and director Kieran Evans will take questions from the audience and then later that evening, Vashti will grace the stage at 92YTribeca for a rare acoustic performance. It promises to be a very special night. Support on the night will come from folk experimentalist Matteah Baim.

Additionally, following the screening of From Here To Before on Saturday, October 17, Vashti Bunyan and director Kieran Evans will be in attendance to answer questions from the audience.

Important Records presents:

Sun Boxes are an environment to enter and exit. It’s comprised of twenty speakers operating independently each powered by solar panels. There is a different guitar sample in each box all playing together making the composition. The guitar samples are all of different lengths so the whole piece keeps evolving.

Participants are encouraged to walk amongst the speakers. It sounds different inside of the array. There is a different sense of space inside. Certain speakers will be closer and louder therefore the piece will sound different to different people in different positions throughout the array. Creating a unique experience for everyone.

There are no batteries involved. The Sun Boxes are reliant on the sun. When the sun sets the music stops. The piece changes as the length of the day changes. Making the participants aware of the cycle of the day.

This piece will be presented Saturday, October 17th on the North Shore of Boston, Noon til sundown. Rain date: October 24th, same time.

Of approximately 6,000 languages currently spoken on Earth, many are not yet recorded, and less than half are being taught by elders to children of the next generation. Every two weeks or so an elder dies, and with them another language vanishes from the face of the planet. In Africa, 80% of the continent’s 2,000 languages are still unnamed, unwritten, and disappearing faster than they can be traced. At this rate, over half of the world’s languages may disappear within the 21st Century, taking along with them an immeasurable “wealth of knowledge about history, culture, the natural environment, and the human brain” (National Geographic: Enduring Voices).

This loss of languages has tremendous implications for our future as the human race; the speakers of these unique modes of communication carry with them a different way of being, seeing and processing life in this world that we can all learn from. As modern culture becomes further alienated from the natural world, we must work even harder to respect and learn from these cultures who believe “the earth itself can only exist because it is being breathed into being by human consciousness” (Wade Davis, anthropologist and ethnobotanist). If we are not to destroy our natural world, we must try to better understand our impact upon it. If these marginalized cultures become extinct, we will lose a tremendously valuable record of humanity’s evolution and evidence of all that the human mind is capable of:

A language is not just a body of vocabulary or a set of grammatical rules; A language is a flash of the human spirit, it is a vehicle through which the soul of each particular culture comes into the material world. Every language is an old-growth forest of the mind, a watershed of thought, an eco-system of spiritual possibilities.

“Basque abstract artist José Antonio Sistiaga painted directly onto film with homemade inks to create this silent 1970 feature. But Sistiaga’s strangely titled work… is different from the films of Stan Brakhage, who didn’t come to film from painting and had his own rhythm. […] [I]ts combination of color and 35-millimeter ‘scope (with about half an hour in black and white) yields the kind of spectacle one associates with musicals and [science fiction] epics.” — Jonathan Rosenbaum

A hand-painted masterpiece of the 1970s; a legendary band of the 1980s. Sistiaga’s rarely-screened ere erera baleibu icik subua aruaren is a work of uncompromising beauty that absolutely deserves a wider appreciation. Savage Republic, one of the unrecognized godfathers of post-rock, formed roughly three decades ago in the midst of the Los Angeles punk rock scene and abruptly disbanded in 1989. In recent years, they’ve reformed and their unique sound (somewhat akin to a Middle Eastern surf band backed by the rhythm section from Joy Division) is as compelling and inexorable as ever. Original members Ethan Port and Thom Fuhrmann, joined by Alan Waddington and Kerry Dowling, will perform their newly commissioned score to Sistiaga’s prodigious work (presented in a stunning 35mm print from Paris.) DJ Michael Stock of Part Time Punks will be on-hand to man the decks, spinning tunes during the pre-show!

Last week I had the pleasure of attending Lord Whimsy’s (Arthur-sponsored) Terrarium Workshop in Philly. Among many other pieces of invaluable botanical information, he shared one of the most inventive graffiti-making methods that I’ve ever encountered; using cheap ingredients (found moss, water and buttermilk or beer), it is possible to blend up a moss-spreading concoction that can be painted with a brush onto any stone surface (such as a garden wall, walkway or even the exterior of your home) to create the living design of your wildest imagination. If it has always been your dream to have living walls, this could be the start of something beautiful…

Lord Whimsy’s Guide to GROWING YOUR OWN MOSS:

Try spreading your carpet of moss with this method: find and clean a clump of moss. Add equal parts water and buttermilk (beer apparently also works well). Add a couple tablespoons of sugar. Mix in a blender: the consistency should be soupy, but not too watery or thick. Pour wherever you’d like moss to grow. Moist, shady spots are best. You can also apply the moss slurry onto surfaces of stones or walls with a paintbrush.

Alongside artists such as Nam Jun Paik and Yoko Ono, Jeff Perkins was a member of the Fluxus group in the mid-1960s and later in the early ’70s, an innovator and practitioner of psychedelic light shows as a member of California’s Single Wing Turquoise Bird (who played live along with rock bands like The Velvet Underground and The Grateful Dead). First performed in the late ’60s and early 70’s in Venice, CA, his light projection pieces are highly minimal but not at all static. This evening, Jeff will be performing a live set (with a special musical guest), using hundreds of slides and four projectors. The slow flickering dissolves, from patterns to minimal shapes, will optically trick the mind into thinking it’s a constant moving image — a show not to be missed.

That porcelain cup resembles my skull. I am holding the cup tight with my hand when out of my arm another absurd arm sprouts like a grafted branch and the hand pending from that arm grabs the cup in a flash and hurls it over my shoulder to the floor. Since my arm is defending the cup to the death, the shattered pieces of course are my skull which resembles the porcelain cup. If my arm had budged before the branching arm crept like a snake back into it the white paper holding back the flood water would have torn. But just as before my arm defends the porcelain cup to the death.

Invisible-Exports is proud to present a 30-year retrospective of collage works by performance artist, writer, musician and provocateur Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV). Genesis is also known among underground circles for he/r affiliations with Brion Gysin and William S. Burroughs, both of whom greatly influenced he/r work. In recent years, P-Orridge began “an ongoing experiment in body modification aimed at creating one pandrogynous being,” received breast implants and started going by “s/he.” This retrospective will showcase the breadth of conceptual imagery (i.e. the “cut-up” technique of the early 20 century Surrealists and elements of Dada-ism) that P-Orridge has been working with in h/er collages over the course of the past three decades:

“30 Years of Being Cut Up” is a three decade retrospective of photomontage and Expanded Polaroids, which includes many works never exhibited before, as well as a sampling of P-Orridge’s early Mail Art. The show will mark the culmination of a new, re-emergent phase in BREYER P-ORRIDGE’s life. Light Industry presents a series of films and lectures ranging from an eight-hour documentary by Ulrike Ottinger which follows reindeer nomads as they migrate across Mongolia (Taiga), to a screening of a mock-50s disaster movie that artist Jonathan Horowitz made entirely from found documentary and TV footage (Apocalypto Now), to a lecture by film critic Ed Halter on a small film company whose inspiring low-budget documentaries explore “Sasquatch, the Loch Ness Monster, the Bermuda Triangle, life after death, UFOs” and the possibility that “extraterrestrial travelers came to earth in prehistoric times to teach technology to our ancestors and create civilization.”

Ginger Brooks Takahashi (b. 1977) lives in Brooklyn, NY, maintaining a social, project-based practice. She is co-founder of LTTR, a queer and feminist art journal, and projet MOBILIVRE BOOKMOBILE project, a traveling exhibit of artist books and zines. She received her BA from Oberlin College, attended the Whitney Independent Study Program, and is a resident artist at Smack Mellon, 2008-9. Her work has shown in the following exhibitions recently: Shared Women at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, 2007; Exile of the Imaginary at the Generali Foundation, Vienna, 2007; and Locally Localized Gravity at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, 2007. Jonathan Horowitz

In an evening exploring the subject of documentary genres, from cinéma vérité to reality TV, Jonathan Horowitz screens his new video, Apocalypto Now (2009), along with an early, rarely seen video, Making Pharaoh’s Red Flag Video (1988). The videos will be presented within the context of a prerecorded “live” introduction/monologue. The artist will be present to answer questions afterward.

“The work of the American artist Jonathan Horowitz (*1966) employs the technique of montage much like a music DJ samples bits and pieces of songs. Scenes from classic movies are combined with obscure bits of media detritus to make critical connections between disparate narratives. At the same time, Horowitz presents singular and incisive new narratives, which powerfully reflect on important issues of the day.

Apocalypto Now is made entirely from found documentary and narrative movie and TV footage. Its primary structure is taken from a documentary on the history of the Hollywood disaster movie. Footage from documentaries on climate change and scenes from movies reenacting the 9/11 World Trade Center attack are intercut. Connections are drawn between disaster as entertainment, real life catastrophe, and the apocalyptic beliefs of religious fundamentalists.

The central figure connecting these strands is the actor/director Mel Gibson. In interview footage, Gibson talks about his personal struggles with addiction, which led him to a renewal of his Catholic faith and to making the movie The Passion of the Christ. As with other players in Apocalypto Now, (self)destructive impulses are channeled through religion and art, to a variety of often disturbing ends. Gibson, however, is not always successful in containing these impulses, as his public relations catastrophes attest.”

In the 1970s, the financial decline of Hollywood and the increased popularity of pseudoscience and parapsychology led to the unlikely rise of tiny Utah-based independent distributor Sunn Classic Pictures, who released a film adaptation of Erich von Däniken’s best-selling book Chariots of the Gods? in 1974. Purporting to explain how extraterrestrial travelers came to earth in prehistoric times to teach technology to our ancestors and create civilization, Chariots grossed nearly $26 million, spawning a series of scrappy Sunn titles exploring Sasquatch, the Loch Ness Monster, the Bermuda Triangle, life after death, UFOs, and the search for Noah’s Ark, along with two more documentaries on “ancient astronauts.” Sunn’s success inspired other outfits to distribute cheaply-made movies and TV shows about such topics as Nostradamus, psychic phenomena, end-times theology and catastrophe theorist Emmanuel Velikovsky. Critic and curator Ed Halter presents an illustrated lecture and clip show on the curious success of Sunn and its numerous imitators, revisiting a markedly different era of film distribution, and analyzing the longstanding appeal of fringe metaphysics in the information age.

The event concludes by screening a former elementary school library 16mm print of In Search of Ancient Astronauts, a television re-edit of Chariots of the Gods? narrated by Rod Serling.

Additional resources will allow us to reach our goals of expanding our modest operating budget, supporting more travel for out-of-town guests, and increasing our fees for artists and curators.

Birdhouse craftsman Fred Jakubiec made it through 25 years of jobs as a supervisor at a fast food joint, a worker at a steel mill, and a driver for FedEx before he found that he was much, much happier making birdhouses out of wood and found materials for the chickadees, cardinals and finches surrounding his Connecticut home.

Fred now builds and sells birdhouses full-time with his partner Lynn, and he cites the nature walks he takes with her in a nearby reservoir as a direct inspiration for his work. It seems that Fred has found happiness in a serene, peaceful lifestyle that all can learn from:

Everybody says, I wanna do what you’re doing when I’m your age…what a life, making birdhouses.

It’s starting to get pretty darn hot across certain latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere — some would say it’s the perfect time to start scouting out local swimming spots for cooling off in mother nature the old-fashioned way, sans the chlorine and claustrophobic atmosphere of modern swimming pools.

Thanks to a tip from longtime Arthur contributing writer Peter Relic, we are now clued into SwimmingHoles.info, an online database that makes it easy to locate beautiful, natural dipping holes in your area:

SwimmingHoles.info focuses on moving, fresh water spots – like creeks, rivers, springs and waterfalls. Also listed are some selected hot springs (in the west) and other swimming places on lakes, quarries or bays which have unique features that make them especially beautiful or fun for swimming.

Short films range from a watercolor animation showing the director’s thoughts while riding her bicycle (Thoughts On My Bike), to a documentary about a group of friends from Trinidad who built “enormous stereo systems jerry-rigged onto ordinary BMX bikes” so that they could throw their neighborhood “an outrageous impromptu music and dance party on wheels” (Made in Queens).

If animals’ ability to move between habitats is blocked, scientists predict that as many as 25% of species will be extinct by the end of this century.

Things looked pretty grim last week after Schwarzenegger announced his plan to close 220 state parks in California, thereby endangering the habitats of many species of animals and plants. Not to mention that last month New York state announced a 55% cut of public funding to botanical gardens, aquariums and zoos to be enacted next year. Sadly, it’s becoming clear that in the face of this recession the protection of wildlife and biodiversity of our natural landscape has dropped dangerously low on the list of our government officials’ priorities.

In the midst of our concerns over the economy and this mad fund-cutting frenzy, many species indigenous to North America (grizzly bears, pronghorns, lynx, elk, and monarch butterflies, to name a few) are struggling to follow their natural migration patterns. This is due in part to the acceleration of global warming, which is causing their habitats to change dramatically as glaciers melt and temperatures rise. As animals are uprooted in search of a new place to graze, give birth or rear young, they must cross treacherous obstacles such as highways, roads, and urban sprawl, many ending up as roadkill in the process.

To help migrating animals cross these man-made barriers safely, Patagonia has developed a program called Freedom to Roam in an effort “to create, restore and protect wildways or corridors between habitats so animals can survive.” The program has been locating routes of migratory animals and building passageways under highways and freeways as safe alternatives for them to cross through. Since their construction, some passageways have reduced roadkill fatalities as much as 96%. Watch videos of successful crossings here.

The construction of these corridors is not some radical environmentalist’s fantasy; it is a necessary measure to protect our future as a planet, and should be treated with the same urgency as our economy. Wildlife corridors already exist in many other areas of the world, as other cultures recognize that we must help animals adapt their lives to modern civilization if they are to survive through rapid climate change, population growth and urban development:

The Netherlands contains over 600 wildlife underpasses and ecoducts that have been used to protect wild boar, red deer, roe deer and the endangered European badger. In India, a 37-mile-long, six-mile-wide corridor connects important tiger habitats in the Eastern Himalaya and the Western Ghats mountain ranges.

This Saturday, come to Printed Matter to rejoice among various ephemera created by the members of Michigan’s legendary music collective Destroy All Monsters including flyer art, posters, photos, magazines, records and drawings made over the course of the 1970s and after their reunion in 1996.

Here’s an anecdote to familiarize you with Destroy All Monsters’ steez, if you’re not already super excited about this show:

Formed at a house party in 1973, Destroy All Monsters’ original line-up [Mike Kelley, Cary Loren, Niagara, and Jim Shaw, among others] played their first gig at a comic book convention—where they were asked to leave after ten minutes—using prepared guitars, a drum machine, tape loops, and various other instruments to create an unorthodox sound of suburban dystopian psyche music that was equal parts Stooges, Albert Ayler, Sun Ra, Velvet Underground, and Sci-Fi B-movie shtick.

The opening will also feature a special musical performance by C. Spencer Yeh (Burning Star Core), and the release of a limited edition of Destroy All Monsters’ lost LP SEXTET, available to the public for the first time ever. So whether you’re an avid fan who first experienced Bored/You’re Gonna Die as an angsty teenager, or a curious head who just wants to see what it’s all about — don’t hesitate, this is gonna be a good time.

This Saturday, experimental sound-collagists and noise-makers Lucky Dragons and asDSSka will be performing a live score to the classic The Red Balloon at The Silent Movie Theatre in Los Angeles (co-presented by Dublab and L.A. Record). Recent performances I’ve seen by Lucky Dragons have been nothing less than magical, unifying experiences where audience members left with smiles beaming from ear to ear. A lot of people I know have recently fallen victim to head colds, cough, flu and other maladies that keep us all back from doing what we need to do every day. After fighting off a bad cold for the last few days, I thought it would be helpful to share a recipe I put together to combat it, because nobody wants to be sick. This just might keep you from falling to the wayside…

Apple Ginger Mint Juice

2 apples, chopped (I recommend Fuji, but use whatever you want)
1 heaping tablespoon ginger paste (found at most Indian grocery stores, helps with consistency)
1 handful chopped mint (cheaper if you grow it yourself, great in the summer)
1 teaspoon Maca Powder (If you’re into that sort of thing…)
1 big squeeze of lemon juice
2 cups orange juice (or substitute part water until liquidy enough to fit your taste)
1 cup ice

Blend it all together – and voila! Your immune system will be better equipped to fight anything that crosses its path.

Arik Moonhawk Roper (a longtime Arthur contributing artist) will be celebrating the launch of his new book Mushroom Magick this Friday in New York. In creating this book, Roper has added his own indelible mark to the long history of mushroom art, presenting over 90 of his original portraits of hallucinogenic species of mushroom alongside educational writings by friends and scholars Erik Davis, Daniel Pinchbeck and Gary Lincoff. Now’s a better time than any to start tracking solar patterns and moon phases. In fact, we are about to enter one of the most intense solar cycles of the last 400 years, which will produce some of the most unreal aurora borealis to be seen in record-keeping history. The next few years should be interesting to watch as our atmosphere changes, and keeping a calendar is a good way to slow down and notice the changes as they happen over the course of a year’s time.

All over New York City, often hidden in tiny rent-controlled apartments that have survived many waves of gentrification in their surrounding neighborhoods, there are slightly delusional (and perhaps even secretly brilliant) artists, writers, and recluses of all kinds who to this day are continuing to hoard their precious manuscripts, newspapers, records, memorabilia, and artwork that nobody’s ever seen.

Only a privileged few gain access to these dwellings, which are in themselves mini-worlds; each of these apartments is like a museum, devoted exclusively to the compulsive collecting habits of its owner. It’s no shock that there is a New York-based company, Disaster Masters, that finds these compulsive hoarders, counsels them and helps them to clean up their apartments (Sidenote: did you know that in Japan there are similar companies that try to coax teenage boys into leaving their rooms? Read about it here.)

Between 2003 and 2005, photographer Michael Schmelling accompanied Disaster Masters to 12 different apartments, making it his prerogative to document each apartment pre-cleanup, while it was still in its most natural, chaotic state. The result is The Plan, a 576-page book, featuring 490 black and white photographs, with an entire chapter dedicated to each home.

Thanks to Schmelling, these remnants of New York history are now preserved for us all to see. Come take a look at what he’s captured at Family’s book launch for The Plan, where Schmelling will discuss his work, accompanied by a slide show, question-and-answer session, and book signing at the end.

Arthur is delighted to sponsor “Scala Naturae,” a show of exquisitely crafted paper sculptures by Tahiti Pehrson opening on May 7th at Oxenrose. In the past, Pehrson has developed album art for Devendra Banhart (covers of White Reggae Troll and Lover) and several t-shirts for friend Joanna Newsom, as well as comissioned portraits for XL recording artists (M.I.A., Peaches, and Dizzee Rascal, among others), and designs for a variety of skateboarding companies including Toy Machine, Blood Wizard and Familia.

On top of all these projects, Pehrson devotes his time to cutting away at his insanely detailed sculptures, made almost entirely of paper with some metal supports. Want to see? Check out this giant cake (real life dimensions: 4ft x 6ft). Something tells me that these pieces shine in their true glory when seen in person; you really have to get up close to experience the full effect of light and shadow interacting within the many crevices, shapes and openings. So if you’re in the Bay area, dig out your magnifying glass — and head over to Oxenrose to lose yourself in the tiny intricacies of Pehrson’s magical paper world.

Greetings Friends and Interested Parties,

Here at Factor E Farm we are very eager to grow more of our own food and complete our 5 Kingdom Community Gene Bank so that we can help others propagate their own edible landscape. As part of that plan we need to plant some annuals after the first frost. Planting a big garden is a lot of work, and we appreciate any help we can get. It’s a great opportunity to learn how to build a raised bed, check out the hustle and bustle of the farm and contribute to what will hopefully be the Best Harvest Ever. I can’t make any promises until things start to grow, but I hope to be leading lots of food processing workshops in the late summer and fall. Look forward to kimchi and sauerkraut workshops (take home your own crock of kimchi!), pesto workshops (take home your own homemade pesto!), wild fermentation workshops and much more.

We invite you all to come join us on Saturday April 25 to build a raised bed and plant our seedlings which have already started growing in the greenhouse.

Gardening Supplies: We have 4 hoes, 7 shovels, a few rakes, one wheel barrow and lots of good compost. I suggest you bring your own garden gloves and any tools you want.

Contribute to our Gene Bank: If you have any extra seedlings or seeds that you just didn’t get around to planting bring those too! We would be honored by any new additions to our gene bank. Maca root has been growing in the Andean mountains of Peru and Bolivia for centuries; once upon a time it was used in exchange for money to pay taxes, and as a trade for other goods (such as corn, rice, quinoa and papaya). It is also said that Incas ate large doses of it before entering battle…apparently that’s part of what made them crazed, unstoppable warriors.

These days, maca is marketed as a natural stimulant, touted by health food companies as a true “Superfood” of the Andes. Many Peruvians of all ages eat maca powder as often as 3 times daily in various ways, such as mixed into yogurt, baked into breads or cakes, or blended into smoothies. It is commonly known that maca helps to awaken the mind, thereby increasing physical energy and mental focus.

People disappointed by the recent discovery that soy products inhibit endocrine function (otherwise known as the body’s proper balance and exchange of hormones) will be happy to hear that maca supports the endocrine system. In fact, maca actively aids the body in regulating hormones and, in turn, helps to maintain emotional balance.

I was first introduced to maca when my friend Christina made “energy balls” using maca and a variety of other ingredients, rolled it into balls around 1″ in diameter. She invited me to try one, but warned me not to eat too many for they were extremely potent. I ate 3 because they tasted so good, and that night I couldn’t sleep until the wee hours of the morning…

Recently I asked her for the recipe, in case you are curious to try this for yourself (Maca Magic brand powder runs around $20 a jar at your local health food store, and lasts a few months if used every day):

almond butter is the base of it all…..(peanut butter is too flavorful)
coconut butter is a plus….because of its richness and sweetness..
cocoa powder
or carob powder if you like the taste of it

1/2 a cup of almond butter will make a whole plate of little balls….the idea is that you get a little taste…because as you know, they are very potent…especially if made with cocoa powder only….

and let creativity flow within the recipe…
like….
add goji berries
maca powder
chili flakes
cinnamon
black pepper
dried fruit
cut up walnuts
orange peel

you want the consistency when all ingredients are mixed up to be more on the dry side…because when you roll them in the palm of your hands the oils will liquify through your warmth and it is easy to form balls…vs if the consistency is too wet you can’t roll them…

Maca also tastes great in smoothies.
