Is there a reason poppies are being used? Is it because they’re cheapest?

As lovely as poppies are, I’d love to see native Mid-Atlantic plants being reintroduced into urban spaces. Plants like horsemint (Monarda punctata) are drought tolerant and are also a great substitute for oregano.

Whimsy!!!! Oy vey. It has nothing at all to do with being cheap or not. In fact, these ones aren’t cheap. They come from Nance Klehm’s personal collection. And, we’re not looking for a substitute for oregano. We’re looking to do something more important, which is right there in the text. Or, go here, and read again: http://www.arthurmag.com/2009/02/18/seeding-the-hidden-dimension-with-an-acre-of-poppies/
